Receivership and insolvency issues

Reinsurance collections and run-off operations.

Collecting reinsurance owed to an estate, and running an insurer in run-off.

About this practice area

Often the estate’s largest asset.

For many insolvent insurers, reinsurance recoverables are the largest asset in the estate. Collecting them means billing reinsurers accurately and on time, answering their questions & audits, and pursuing arbitration or litigation when payment is disputed.

An insurer in run-off, whether solvent or in receivership, no longer writes new business but must still handle and pay the claims on its existing policies, sometimes for many years. Run-off planning sets out how those claims will be evaluated, adjudicated, and paid, and how the matching reinsurance will be collected.

Reinsurance disputes in litigation are described under Reinsurance Disputes.
